THE PEOPLES COALITION - CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS
Pages 1   2

Criminal Justice Programs The Peoples Coalition (referred to as TPC) realizes that there may be reasons why someone faces their first arrest and possible conviction for a crime which do not always include willful disregard of the law and authority. As a result, “TPC Diversion Program” has been established as an alternative sentencing program for many first-time offenders to prevent a criminal record and incarceration.

Often, these programs target juvenile first time offenders with little regard for the many adults who find themselves in trouble with the law for the first time and have no concept of what to do about it. TPC understands that he or she could be dealing with one of the most stressful times in his or her life. After an arrest, we often hear from offenders that they are suffering from feelings of anxiety, feeling overwhelmed and fearing what may lie ahead.

First Time Offender
Typical Concerns
  • Will this incident be in the newspaper and what will my friends and family think?
  • What are the possible consequences or penalties that I am facing?
  • Will I have to go to court?
  • Will I have to answer questions from the judge?
  • How long will my case take to resolve?
  • What are the ramifications of my arrest and how could it affect my future?
  • Are there any programs that provide leniency for first-time offenders?
  • Is there a possibility I could go back to jail?
  • Will I have a criminal record?
  • Can I seal or expunge the records?

Whether the first time offender is a juvenile or an adult, he or she knows how vital it can be to have an advocate offer a structured program as an alternative that, if successfully completed, can “divert” him or her from further penetration into the justice system.
